Review of Higher Ground (2011) by Alex C — 07 Feb 2012
Vera Farmiga stars and directs a piece that took me a while to get into. "Higher Ground" focuses on the lifelong struggle of Corrine as she battles with her faith. She marries young and lives a very Christain-based life with her husband and kids.
But soon she begins to question some of the events in her life and whether she is truly happy. One of the catalysts to this is when one of the other wives in her church group, whose basically Corrine's best friend, suffers a devastating seizure and is left with permanent brain damage.
And then the continued unhappiness with her husband begins to make her feel lost. Farmiga seems natural in the role, and the film is very much a genuine, personal piece. A little slow, but still a film worth looking out for.
