Review of Higher Ground (2011) by Craig T — 26 Mar 2012
A challenging and often infuriating film about accepting, but continuing to wrestle with the ambiguities of being alive. As an atheist, I struggled mightily with the film's first half wherein answers were sought and offered without question; much in the same way I expect people of faith would struggle with the film's second half wherein questions offered no answers.
It's this balance that is Farmiga's saving grace as director. As actress, she needs no saving. She is, as usual, superb, effortlessly imbuing her character with an unstudied humanness that is equally grounded and capable of great heights.
