Review of High Sierra (1941) by Austin B — 10 Nov 2007
It's been done, and better. The film has tha special Warne Brothers feel to it, but lacks much else, other than noteworthy performances by Lupino and Bogart. The story gets sappy at numerous points, particually with the crippled girl.
Critics say it's one of the best action films ever made, but it's not nearly as exciting as other gangster classics of this period, like White Heat, Little Ceaser, or Public Enemy. The action gives way to more meledrama, which is not what I wanted to see.
