Review of High Sierra (1941) by Brian T — 30 Mar 2009
It's rare to get dynamic characters in these classic films from the 50's and 40's, but Bogart achieves quite the sympathetic villain in this one. Also, some of the dialogue is richly well-delivered, while other exchanges are rather forced and rigid.
Perhaps this just deserves high marks in contrast to other formula-fiction offerings of the era, but its ability to stand out speaks to its high level of performance.
