Review of High Sierra (1941) by Danny D — 18 Feb 2009
Although in the shadow of another great film in which bogart starred in the same year, high sierra was a pleasant suprise for me. most of the supporting actors werent actually that good, but the story was engaging, bogey was terrific as always, and the end of the film was perfect.
its not often that a film is effective enough to get me rooting for the bad guy, but roy earl is as selfish as a gangster could be and is sympathetic at the same time. an underrated but worthwhile classic film.
