Review of High-Rise (2015) by Robin E — 19 Apr 2016
Wheatley's biggest budgeted feature to date is an ambitious but ultimately overly disjointed adaptation of Ballard's dystopian novel. Set in a future as seen through a mid-70s lens, the film has a pleasing "Clockwork Orange" vibe with Hiddleston moving into a modern block of flats, only to find that it's a society in microcosm with a power play that turns violent and brutal.
Great premise, but the execution is all over the place to the point where the film becomes largely exasperating.
