Review of High Plains Drifter (1973) by Matthew L — 13 Jun 2010
Its difficult to know where this sits in Eastwoods body of work. As a western its a fairly standard plot involving a gunslinger hired to protect a town from some recently released convicts. Eastwood is in 'man with no name' territory here and is as dependable as ever in this case playing a thoroughly unlikable character who has raped a woman and killed three men within the first 15 minutes.
The one thing that sets this film apart from many other Westerns is the supernatural twist at the films conclusion.
