Review of High Fidelity (2000) by Paul H — 04 Dec 2009
Top 5 reasons to see this movie 1) John Cusack 2) itâ??s based on a Nick Hornby novel 3) get to see John AND Joan Cusack in the same movie 4) brilliant dialogue 5)â?¦damn canâ??t really come up with one more.
Now Iâ??m going to give High Fidelity the benefit of the doubt because I love the book so much. It is so Nick Hornby and the movie does a good job to sticking to the novel but the chemistry is lacking.
Maybe that is what the director was going for. Even though Rob is supposed to be crazy in love for Laura who just left him, you just donâ??t feel it. It appears that he just doesnâ??t want to be lonely, it doesnâ??t matter who heâ??s with.
All the ex girlfriends come off as two dimensional when you know there is sooo much more to them but this could also be because the story is being told from Robâ??s point of view. All the actors do the best they can with what they were given with but youâ??re left wanting to know so much more.
The dialogue for the film is probably the best part (even if you donâ??t get all the music references) and a lot of the dialogue comes straight from the book. The movies fun but can also feel empty at times.
Hey, not every track on the album is the best.
