Review of High Fidelity (2000) by Charles R — 07 Jul 2013
A long-lasting skewer of the 'music nerd' that is (in the least) a presage to the 00's uber-hipster, John Cusack's 'Rob' is a socially awkward slacker's wet dream - he owns a record shop, gets to hang with Jack Black and under-rated Todd Louiso, and has a hilarious and slightly bitchy sister (played to the heavens by Joan Cusack in a hilarious casting quirk), all there to help him sort out his relationship drama.
But NOOOO does he appreciate it? Instead he goes crawling back to all his old flames, like that's even considered by rational people?! Anyway, what could have been a Hollywood-ized version of Nick Hornby's book ends up being a 5/5 A-list pop movie in the best way.
Oh, and the OST is top notch too, naturally, especially the final performance by then-unknown Jack Black.
