One of the early great ransom stories. Kurosawa's brilliant attempt at a crime drama that pays off. Its a man who risks all he has to get ahead in life when an unforeseen plot to kidnap his son goes awry and they instead kidnap his worker's son! He's caught in the dilemma of going the step forward in life at the cost of a boy, or to loose it all and save him.
