Review of Hiding Out (1987) by Clark P — 13 Jan 2008
Riding high on the success of his role as Duckie in the box office hit 'Pretty In Pink', Jon Cryer took the starring role in 'Hiding Out', a movie that effectively combines elements from a number of genres - teen drama, comedy and crime thriller.
Cryer acts up a storm as stock broker Andrew Morenski, posing as high school student Maxwell Hauser to evade the hitmen of a mob boss he has the power to expose. Overlooked upon it's release in 1987, 'Hiding Out' is actually better than you might expect.
It is a clever observation of teen life that boasts characters with depth and a high quota laugh content. Special mention must be made to Annabeth Gish and Keith Coogan who both deliver solid acting support, Gish as Cryer's beautiful love interest and Coogan as his dorky cousin.
