Review of Hide and Seek (2005) by Dawn V — 14 Aug 2009
This film was well directed; it didn't signpost what was going to happen too much and the ending was a genuine surprise to me. The young girl played by Fanning is suitably creepy through the first two acts and comes out with some cutting lines to her father, De Niro.
There were sufficient diversions in the plot to keep you guessing as to what the final act will bring. De Niro is good and magnetic as usual, but it seems like he's going through the motions for the first half.
I can't say how happy I was to see Elisabeth Shue and Famke Janssen in the same film: much love to the casting director! A good thriller that should keep most lovers of the genre diverted for a couple of hours.
