Review of Hidalgo (2004) by Daniel K — 16 Apr 2008
Not the greatest performances, script, music, or directing. I should like this alot more than I do. The music is a bit overbearing at times and definitely doesn't put one in the mood the director is looking for.
The action is decent, but nothing to write home about. The emotional and more intimate scenes seem a little contrived and certainly don't hit home where they should. Mortensen is believable, but this is not one of his best performances.
Even Sharif is very good. Robinson's role should have cast with Mili Avatal as well. It's a great story though and one you can't help but find engrossing. I think this might work better as a biopic or more of a western.
