Review of Hesher (2010) by Ceph J — 26 Sep 2011
Joseph Gordon Levitt plays "Hesher" who's semi-psychotic, loud, obnoxious and not someone you'd take home. But TJ (Devin Brochu) does and he probably doesn't have a choice. He's grief stricken over his dead mom in a car accident, his father (Rainn Wilson) is no comfort, his grandmother (Piper Laurie is fine here) is sick.
He's bullied by a school mate and is infatuated with a store clerk (Natalie Portman looking ordinary). It's a dark fairy tale for adults containing lots of profanity and unnecessary destruction.
It's the type of movie that you don't know where it's heading but want to watch to see how it turns out. Not much to recommend except to see Joseph Gordon Levitt take an unsympathetic role and turn it into hammy acting.
