Review of Hesher (2010) by Andy D — 05 Nov 2011
It was....interesting. There was lots of good like the awesome acting by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Natalie Portman and Devin Brochu. There was also some dark humor that made me laugh. I kinda like that Hesher was the "anti guardian angel" if you will. And that in his own twisted way brought this broken family together. Thought that was original. He was also pretty sweet to the grandma.
I just didn't find him living there so believable. What father or grandmother doesn't question a much older man being the kid's friend? And especially since they first meet him in skanky underwear. Even Nicole (Natalie Portman) seemed not to care that he was trashing another person's house. Didn't she wonder about the kid's welfare. I get that people were probably scared of him,but if I think I would call the cops.
It was overall, a very weird film. Interesting yes. But weird.
