Review of Hesher (2010) by Mike B — 13 Apr 2013
A flawed yet powerful movie with fine performances. Gordon-Levitt continues to amaze me with the power, range, and depth of his characters. As expected, Portman and Wilson do a great job, as does the rest of the cast.
Brochu is exceptional. Gritty and realistic. A lot of critics only saw the warts. Real life is not always pretty, and not every movie is a happy one. In the end, Hesher makes the family realize what they have left, rather than what they have lost.
It is through this catharsis that the film ultimately triumphs.
