Review of Herø (2001) by Mark J — 21 Aug 2014
Thought-provoking sci-fi set in the near future about Theodore Twombly (Joaquin Phoenix), a man who falls in love with his Operating System (Scarlett Johansson). Although this film started to drag in places, I felt the 'relationship' had credibility, and pointed to a logical progression of how humans might interact with machines in the future.
Part social media satire, part romance with a twist, Her is a film that will leave you pondering the possibilities of human relationships of the future. It's also one of the best looking films I've seen in a while.
The art direction in this is just superb, and the use of a Shangai-like cityscape as a backdrop to a future LA is truly inspired. Not so sure about the high-waisted trousers though.
