Review of Herø (2001) by Matt L — 23 Sep 2014
Phoenix has never disappointed me with his performances. His efforts here are extraordinarily significant because of tone of Her. The world of future LA is lonely and so close to home it's eerie. Technology has developed to make society incredibly connected, which in turn alienates and de-socializes the human race.
What's really interesting is that Phoenix's co-star (an AI-based operating system) arguably expresses more human desires than most everyone else. Also, the issues with love that develop raise intriguing questions about the emotion and the human psyche. This is a brilliant script, brought to life by Phoenix's honest portrayal and ability to carry the film alone.
