Review of Hereditary (2018) by Emma W — 24 Jun 2018
I am flabbergasted at the five star rating from critics and audiences alike. This film was soooo slow you lost all interest very early on and never really get it back. Gabriel Byrne seemed bored all the way through it (like a lot of the audience!).
There were a few surprise moments where you thought it was stepping up a gear but due to the very disjointed scene structure it never quite manages to capitalise on the meagre amount of suspense it dishes up in those moments.
The ending..... well.... Everyone was howling with laughter in the screening I went to! And not through some sort of artistic sense of irony, just because it was stupid!!!
All this aside, Toni Collette was superb and was a standout highlight and the reason I gave this the few stars I did.
