Review of Hereditary (2018) by Aldo G — 16 Oct 2018
From the reviews I had read I expected Hereditary to be a strong contender for horror of the year and potentially take that crown from A Quiet Place. The film does have some genuinely shocking and unsettling moments and I thought Toni Collette was superb in the lead role but what I will mostly remember is how very odd the whole thing was.
The film begins with the passing of the matriarch of the family and from here the family slowly begins to unravel as more tragedy enters their lives and past secrets are revealed. Strange things begin to occur and horror ensues.
It was entertaining and I have certainly never seen anything else like this but it was just a little too odd for me to class it as one of the greats.
