Review of Hereditary (2018) by Lee M — 29 Oct 2018
While I think there are even better horror movies out there like The Shining and Get Out, Hereditary just might be the scariest. This film is dreadful to watch, and I mean that in the best way. There's not a moment where this film lets you breathe easily, there's always something on-screen that keeps you alert.
The most chilling part (without getting into spoilers) is a scene involving a telephone pole, and the aftermath of that moment. It's so perfectly acted, written, and directed, that when it cuts to our first shot with ants, the image and the sounds in the background are so horrifying to think about that it had me crying in the theater.
Everything in this film works for me. Even the ending, which I'm surprised has polarized so many people. If you pay attention to what's being said by the characters, you should be able to pick it up like I did.
10/10.
