Review of Hereditary (2018) by Adam P — 07 Sep 2018
The one-star review might seem a little rough or mean, but honestly, I feel like the movie deserves it. I was told this is a very good movie and I was told I had to watch it as soon as possible, so that night I watched it and was ultimately.
..disappointed. I wasn't even told it was the best movie ever, as I have been told before...but it was just...okay, I guess. I could have not watched it and felt the same way about it as I do now. I've been constantly asking for more suspense and story-based horror films and it did have a twist I was moderately unable to see coming.
..but it just doesn't pack that punch a lot of other movies hold. Everything was very drawn out, you knew something was wrong from the start that fell under some form of the story elements but...it just wasn't.
..interesting. The story itself is alright, but I suppose how the characters are portrayed make them sort of unlikeable, the pacing was about on par for what I guessed but it just didn't keep my interest.
I was sort of hoping this movie would change part way through and just prove to be something sort of 'meta' like it wasn't real and the characters in it were just suffering from some sort of grief process.
..I found myself more lost in the idea of what I think would make the movie more enjoyable then able to focus on the movie...I'm sorry to ramble, but I just really felt like I should let out my thoughts on this movie before I just completely forget it.
