Review of Hereditary (2018) by Derrick H — 17 Jun 2018
The movie starts out extremely slow. I mean EXTREMELY slow. It was about 80 or 90 minutes into the movie when I told my wife. I have no idea where this movie is going but it's taking a really long time to get there. I guess you could classify this as a possession movie, but there is very little background on the actual cult or demon. You have to garner most of the information as the mother (Toni Collette) is flipping through the old albums.
The movie for the most part seems like it's half drama where the dysfunctional family is trying to get through all of their relationship issues. Overall there was maybe one jump scare which had absolutely nothing to do with the theme of the movie when a bird basically hits the window. Needless to say when the actual scare stuff starts to happen it was almost a hilarity of ridiculousness rather than scary.
