Review of Hereditary (2018) by Chris T — 26 Jun 2018
I was really looking forward to seeing this. Critics hailing it as the greatest horror film in decades. Needless to say I was very disappointed. Maybe there's some payola action going on with studios and critics to lure people into the theaters.
There's really nothing new going on in this film. I did feel bad when the little girl smacked her head into the telephone pole at 80 mph. And there was some good acting by the mother losing her shit.
You can tell the director was influenced by a lot of horror films and tried to borrow from them all. If you remove all of the ritualistic nonsense from this film, it could have been a really effective drama about a family dealing with the loss of their daughter.
Instead, it ends up a laughable attempt at horror.
