Review of Hereditary (2018) by Eric R — 19 Jul 2018
4/5 Stars.
Hereditary channels a cross between The Shining and the Exorcist. It both has you on the edge of your seat and on your heels the entire movie through. You never quite know where the movie is going or what is happening. And, even though the ending has created a lot of controversy (I am not sure I like it and could have preferred a different ending), the journey to get there is what psychological horror movies are all about. From very early in the movie the hair was standing up on the back of my neck as you know that *something* is off, but you just can't tell what. The daughter, Charlie, is played disturbingly well. Toni Collette, who plays the mother, gives a spectacularly creepy and emotional performance. There are parts of the movie that are gruesome. There are parts that make you jump out of your seat.
