Review of Hereditary (2018) by Evans — 04 Jul 2018
Ordinary People Meets The Shining is the best way to describe watching Hereditary - and hats off to the director for blending genres, but to what end? After the first hour it leaps from a decent and tremendously well-acted study on grief to a **** crazy mashup of the occult.
Had Hereditary shifted from drama to ghost story and tracked the departed impact on a grieving family it would’ve stayed on the rails. Instead it had to go all Friedkin by way of Polanski - and not enough Mike Leigh.
