Review of Hereafter (2010) by Mloy X — 29 Jul 2011
I thoroughly enjoyed this film, but I must admit that I have been fascinated by this subject matter my entire life. It's quite different than anything else Clint Eastwood has ever directed, but the master's hand is quite evident.
It's intelligent, understated, and features amazing performances from the fine ensemble cast. Three very different people from different parts of the world find their lives joined together by forces outside of their control, and each must confront their own encounters with tragedy and mortality in their own way.
The re-creation of the tsunami disaster in 2005 at the beginning of the film is quite amazing. There is also a scene involving the terrorist subway bombings in London, and these real-life events help to make this film feel grounded and realistic.
