Review of Hereafter (2010) by Anthony D — 31 Jul 2011
Starts off as a brilliant and intoxicating film, but eventually falling into a boring, lifeless, and inaccurate one. The pot follows three different people; a psychic named George Lonegan, a reporter named Marie, who just survived a fatal accident, and a boy named Marcus is just getting over the death of his twin brother.
The three stories soon interact, and each finds himself impacting the other in ways they did not predict. The premise is interesting and absorbing, but the film quickly falls down a road of confusion and unclarity.
Clint Eastwood is confused and conflicted in this film, and there are many times in the movie where he contradicts himself and whatever the heck he is trying to say. Those who follow any type of religion will be irritated by this film as well, because there are many moments where Eastwood shows VERY clearly that ALL he is supporting is the idea of an afterlife, not he who created the afterlife.
A very unrewarding movie chock-full of missed potential; a disappointment.
