Review of Hereafter (2010) by John P — 12 Jan 2012
This movie is pretty much two and a half hours of Clint Eastwood telling himself, âThereâ(TM)s Life after death.â? I mean itâ(TM)s an hour and twenty minute film stretched out to almost three. There are so much long periods of this film where absolutely nothing is happening and, I can deal with that with films that are really cinematography focused, but most of the time they show the inside of Matt Damonâ(TM)s apartment.
The film tells three parallel stories about three people affected by death in different ways; Matt Damon plays American factory worker George, who is able to communicate with the dead; CÃ (C)cile de France plays French television journalist Marie, who survives a near-death experience during the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami; and Frankie and George McLaren play Marcus, a British boy who wants to communicate with his dead older brother, Jason.
I for one did not find any of these three characters interesting. The only good part about this movie was the beginning when that tsunami just tore up half of that Thailand town. Now that was pretty awesome. Other than that, I was kind of hoping of another accident to happen but all I got was a boring ass kid trying to talk to his dead brother and two people who do this giant runaround just to have this relationship at the end. I hated this movie and I pray to whatever afterlife force out there that I donâ(TM)t end up like one those blurry looking ghosts when Iâ(TM)m dead. Otherwise itâ(TM)s going to be one hell of a shitty afterlife.
