Review of Hereafter (2010) by Kurt B — 23 Jul 2011
The beginning of this film is deceiving. It tries to develop too many characters at once resulting in confusion and no real movement in the story. In addition, the first hour of the story felt stretched and unformed, which made the film seem to progress very slowly.
Ultimately, the stories of these seemingly random characters come together and relate to one another very nicely. Damon and De France elevate the emotional level of this story to make it worthwhile, but only if you can sit through nearly two hours of character development between three or four sets of characters.
I assure you, the story gets to a place you'll like, it just takes its sweet time to get there.
