Review of Herb & Dorothy (2009) by John M — 13 Oct 2009
A great film about ordinary people committing themselves to doing something extraordinary. The Vogels collect a massive and prescient collection of modern art on Herb's postman salary over decades.
Interviews with bright lights of late 20th century art show a couple fully immersed in the art world and the working life of its artists, despite their modest means. the third act, in which the national museum assumes responsibility for the collection reveals the truly heroic civic-mindedness of their disciplined collecting.
