Review of Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986) by Nick K — 01 Mar 2008
Disturbing? Maybe one scene. I thought the movie was tame to be honest, and I believe the only reason this movie was NC-17 is because of the rape scene involving Otis and his sister. Lots of people have said this has a documentary feel to it, but those people are idiots. The movie has a 70's exploitation movie feel to it. In fact, I found it hard to believe that this was made in '86.
Great sound editing in the movie, especially when Henry is sawing up Otis in the bathtub - way to push the message home. Also, the movie could not have ended any other way. To me, you have to suspend your disbelief that Henry has gotten away with so many murders, and the cops could not track him. He would have left fingerprints all over the houses he broke into. All in all, it was a good movie. I enjoyed the score to it as well. Catch Michael Rooker in Slither for a campy performance.
