Review of Henry Poole Is Here (2008) by Ricky W — 13 Feb 2009
You know...this movie is a bit cliche', slightly cheesy, and very melodramatic...but it's wonderful in a way that makes you smile all the way through the film. It's really a beautifully made film.
It's got a wonderful visual style, a very dynamic cast, and just the right touches of emotion that leave you with that little smile in the corners of your mouth with each passing scene. This is a movie that so many people are going to miss, but its a fantastic movie that everyone should see.
It's emotional, it's funny, it's thought provoking, and it has an incredible message that I loved seeing in a direct and honest way through a quirky story. It's a "everything happens for a reason.
..tomorrow isn't promised today" sort of movie. It's too quirky to get the attention of an epic drama, but it's a simple movie with big heart that extends beyond the characters in the movie and into the audience.
It's just a great movie about whats important in life, and the difference between living and dying spiritually. I'm sure it will come across preachy to some while contradicting what others believe, but for a mainstream movie the subtle unfocused warmth that this film provides is enough to give you goosebumps.
Love this movie. One of my favorites of the year.
