Review of Henry Poole Is Here (2008) by Michael H — 12 Aug 2009
Henry Poole Is Here tells the story of a man who moves to a house that supposedly has the face of Jesus( in the form of a water stain) on it. Onlookers come to get miracles from the Holy Face, and Henry Poole finds himself again in the process.
The film has a very well written script penned by Albert Torres. Mark Pellington as director is able to do what some may consider impossible, he was able to get a solid performance from George Lopez. The film really owes itself to an umexpected performance from Luke Wilson, who in the opinion of this reviewer gives the performance of his career. He deserves an Oscar Nod for this turn.
Despite the praises, Henry Poole Is Here is a film that gets you to question your faith, and what the true nature of a miracle is.
Bottom Line: **** See this film anyway you can.
