Review of Henry Poole Is Here (2008) by Michael P — 18 Sep 2009
While I appreciate the overall arc of the story from non-belief to belief, the film is just too talky and sentimental to really leave a deep and lasting impression. There were numerous scenes that either could have been cut or severely curtailed, a character whose main purpose was to show the writer knew about Russian history and Noam Chomsky, and neighbors that simply went beyond believability.
Maybe if they had taken everything a few steps into fantasyland it would have helped.
