Review of Henry Fool (1998) by Tabboo T — 05 Mar 2010
To paraphrase John Peel, everything Hartley does is different, everything is the same. Henry Fool begins much like classic Hartley. Funny, insightful, and doesn't take himself too seriously. The problem is that it is much too long.
Not so much that this is the issue per se, but the writing fails. The last 45 minutes or hour is just too... conventional and predictable. Doesn't add anything to the story and comes across too trite and serious.
