Review of Henry & June (1990) by Gypsytricia K — 08 Jun 2007
I brought this movie home (when managing Eric's Home Videos) without having a clue what it was about. Was I ever shocked!!! LOL. It changed my life. Because of this movie, I delved into thel ives of Anais Nin and Henry Miller, and the subsequent ex-pat Left Bank subculture of the '30's. Wow. I was seriously born in the wrong era.
This movie is definitely a glossy coating on their lives, but it's beautifully poetic and I love that you don't really know the story even after seeing the film. I love the cameo by Kevin Spacey (although it wasn't really a cameo as a b it part). I also loved that later Uma & Maria ended up in Pulp Fiction together...gotta love that!!! (Always wondered how many people who saw Pulp Fiction saw Henry & June....).
