Review of Helvetica (2007) by Joseph Y — 20 Oct 2009
Something as seemingly innocuous as a typeface is given top billing - and shines - in this fascinating, multi-layered documentary about the ubiquitous Helvetica font. The communication of ideas, of advertising, of art, and the way our culture is reflected all hinges, more than anyone realizes, on the personalities of the words we see every day.
Helvetica is, quite simply, everywhere in our society, more common than you'd ever think. Will be appreciated more by graphic designers and artists, but all the same, as some might say, "Helvetica is for everyone.
