Review of Hellraiser: Inferno (2000) by Simon C — 16 Nov 2007
I'm pretty sure this is the lowest budget of all the Hellraisers, also was released straight to dvd, and had nothing to do with the original creator, Clive Barker.
That said, I view it as probably the best of all the Hellraisers.
Most of the Horror in this film is "psychological headfuck horror". There isn't much gore compared to the other movies, most of it is left to the imagination and merely suggested with screams and gurgles and blood, which is actually pretty damn scary in the context of the movie. Great script! The whole, "trapped in a never ending mental torment" THing, really does get in your brain more than a few gory splatter scenes would, and I was thinking about this movie days after I'd watched it, which is always the sign of something good... Comparable to Jacobs Ladder, when it comes to concepts.. 10 out of 10, a true vision of Hell...
