Review of Hellraiser: Hellseeker (2002) by Bradens584 — 19 Dec 2020
Kirsty’s back! That’s right, Ashley Laurence returns to the Hellraiser franchise for a whole two minutes. And that’s one of the best things about this movie. The real protagonist is Trevor, who is Kirsty’s husband and an extremely boring character (although he is played by the actor who played the Vulture in Brooklyn Nine Nine, which I got a kick out of).
But the thing is, I genuinely hate this movie. I have like two good things to say about Hellraiser: Hellseeker. First, Doug Bradley returns as Pinhead, and is good (while he’s on screen, which is about the same as Kirsty).
The second is one scene in the climax is kind of cool. And that’s it. Rather than that, the acting is horrible, the special effects boring, the cinematography uninspired, the filmmaking lazy, the story barebones and a blatant ripoff of Hellraiser: Inferno and worst of all, it’s trashy.
Hellraiser films are meant to be smart, the thinking man’s 80s slasher. Even in the weaker instalments, Hell on Earth and Bloodline, there was still an element of intelligence, but Hellseeker is complete trash exploitation.
And that is the worst thing a Hellraiser film can be.
