Review of Hellraiser: Deader (2005) by Kenneth B — 31 Jul 2012
Well at least 'Deader' resembles a horror film, rather than some lame made-for-TV cop thriller with a few Cenobytes inserted at various points. Once again Pinhead's screen time is limited but what occurs when he is not on screen is actually somewhat of a plot, remarkable eh? It has still got plenty of sketchy dialogue and ropey acting so in all Deader is quite a weak film but after Bloodline and Hellseaker it feels almost like the Spanish thriller, Tesis, to which is seems to owe a debt, if indeed the creators are that well versed in suspense films.
If not then its a coincidence but there is certainly that impression from the snuff movies within the film, although there is an amost Ordet-esque revelation to the snuff videos in here, boy I'm giving this film too much credit with these references.
The best thing that you could say about Deader is that it IS a horror film and it feels more like the Hellraiser that Clive Barker created in the 80's.
