Review of Hellraiser (2022) by Bhappenstance — 10 Oct 2022
It starts out strong, then steadily slides into boring, silly, and stupid. A bunch of characters we don't necessarily care about running around yelling at each other while Cenobites patiently wait around for gates to open and close.
The most disappointing aspect of the film, though, must be the makeup design. Though aesthetically intricate, none of the Cenobites look at all intimidating, or as though the torments wrought upon their flesh were, like, painful.
Rather, they come across as elaborate plastic action figures. Not to mention the pearl-tipped pins, which never failed to elicit a chuckle. Every good idea in the film is in someway cribbed from the original or its sequel, and every bad idea -- and there are many -- is unique to this version.
