Review of Hellraiser (1987) by J.b. R — 25 Jun 2011
Scary debut from Clive Barker takes his original story and breaks all sorts of horror genre conventions. A hybrid monster/vampire/demon/beauty&beast/occult mystery story unfolds nicely and while it revolves around the S&M netherworld released by the pandora's box (puzzle box), we rarely see this world and it's inhabitants which makes the film even more scary.
Incredible makeup/special effects from the golden-age. Suffers slightly from bad writing and smaltzy music in places.
