Review of Hellraiser (1987) by William C — 20 Jul 2011
I was excited to re-watch this the other night, since the last time I'd seen it was when I was a very impressionable 13 year-old. (Yeah, this involved sneaking the movie. Let me just say -- seeing a man's head torn apart by hooks blew my mind at that age.).
The verdict? Clive Barker can certainly direct visuals, but 90 percent of the performances in this were so bad they dragged the flick down. (Pinhead and the main girl are great, but the former is only in the flick for about 6 minutes.) This had the makings of a horror classic, and Barker just HAD to go directing his own novella. Come on, man.
