Review of Hellraiser (1987) by Jack P — 16 Nov 2017
A beautiful horror movie, that's officially 30 years old.
I watched this when I was very young, and rewatched it ultimately 2 more times, each time with a different perspective, and in a different decade.
There is a deep psychological aspect here, with the main antagonist female being seduced into her predicament.
There is a overarching backstory with the demon dudes, that isn't quite covered, but the viewer is ever curious to find out more (through multiple sequels.
And you get to see the awkward, yet inventive use of clay animation, coupled with excessive blood and gore.
It's an intense movie, with some silly elements as well (the weird sparks, and the ending to name a few).
But overall, this is a classic, that ultimately produced many terrible sequels (that I need to watch).
