Review of Hellraiser (1987) by Orlando D — 01 Oct 2012
By the late 80's horror films where overrun by Jason and Freddy who were reaching saturation point. Here comes a horror film from horror novelist Clive Barker who creates an original horror film that is refreshing and likeable.
The movie works in so many levels: from the acting(Claire Higgins is amazing) and the characters are so well developed that you care about them which was unheard of in 80's horror films and the story grabs you from the beginning and never lets up.
Yes, the special effects are dated but from a limited budget-it's the story that matters and this is a wonderful, yet gory horror film.
