Review of Hello, My Name Is Doris (2015) by Lauren W — 17 Feb 2018
OK, I like Sally Fields, the plot summary is "A woman of a certain age finds her world turned upside down by a handsome new co-worker in a witty and compassionate late-life coming-of-age-story." Good enough for me. No further research needed.
Flip it on and not only do I get Sally Fields in a ridiculous romantic comedy, I start it running to learn it's set in NYC (my home town), and Tyne Daly, a hero of mine, co-stars. The secret prize in the box is a hoarding subplot, handled with gentle tact and a decent grasp of fact. JACKPOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ????? - one for each serendipitous movie element. Yes, I really like romantic comedies. Once upon a time, right after a particularly awful break-up, I cried through eight showings of Disney's original Beauty and the Beast to cheer up.
