Review of Hello Herman (2012) by Mariétou N — 21 Oct 2012
I had the pleasure of viewing Hello Herman at the Edge Mar Center for the Arts this week. Director Michelle Danner explores the sensitive subject of bullying, and shows both sides of a controversial subject.
I was left speechless at the performances especially by the young actor playing the role of Herman. I felt placed in the movie, trying to think what I would do in that situation. How I would react If I knew Herman personally, would I try to understand his reasons for doing something so unthinkable, or allow the media to brainwash me into thinking the situation was simply black and white.
The film made you feel uneasy in all the right ways. The character development in the story was another strength this film had. The two main characters constantly intertwine in their similar but very different paths to fame.
The back story of the characters support the themes of treating everyone with kindness, regardless if you know them personally or not. I highly recommend everyone to see this film, not only for the amazing acting and story, but for the deep message behind the film.
Hello Herman got into my head and he won't be going anywhere, anytime soon.
