Review of Hello, Dolly! (1969) by Mark K — 26 Apr 2011
One of the last musicals of its kind, Hello, Dolly! is a dance-heavy, period musical with the great Gene Kelly behind the lens. Sadly it's too lengthy and was completely dated even back in 1969. If it weren't for Tony winning actor Michael Crawford and of course Ms.
Streisand bringing their best to the tired material, there would be little here worth visiting today. As it stands, typically lavish production values for the day combine with these fine performances to create a film that fans of throwback sixties musicals should at least enjoy.
