Review of Hello, Dolly! (1969) by Carol H — 30 Nov 2013
Barbra Streisand once said she was too young to take on this part of Dolly Levi, but her performance carries the film with her charm and talent. She does for the screen what Carol Channing did for the production on state.
And speaking of production , it does lumber along with elephantine splendor, directed by a man all too familiar with putting on a show. It is the last of the great old style musicals, and where editing was used for the purpose of telling a story and not quick cut , split second scenes.
